STUDENT ACTIVITIES
ILLINOIS STATE HISTORY FAIR PRESENTATIONS PROJECT (Click
here for some suggestions)
Each year, many Illinois schools encourage 7th and 8th grade students
to participate in this wonderful project that is completed over the
spring semester. Projects are as unique as the students preparing
them: some write papers, some do video presentations and others
do three dimensional displays.
The first level of competition is at the local school where a student
can either participate in a group or as an individual project.
The best of these local school projects are entitled to participate at
the regional level, and the best of those are offered the chance to
compete at the state level in Springfield.
If students were offered the opportunity to do their project on a War
of 1812 related subject, their projects could also be assimilated into
the rotating library displays we are hoping to create throughout the
state. The result would be the creation of better awareness of
the War of 1812 for the students, their parents, teachers, and the
related historical organizations.
The students’ hard work could pay off in numerous ways and the chance
for additional exposure of their projects may encourage more students
to participate.
This is a high priority project and we’re hoping someone will step up to volunteer as soon as possible.
LOGO CONTEST
The logo
contest is being directed at 6th grade students across the state.
Each selected logo will be used. Regional Director Seth Graves
is coordinating the specifics for the logo contest. More
information will be added here as soon as it is available.
Students are asked to add their name very small and discreetly
within the logo.
Our intent is to go into Illinois grade, middle and high schools and
ask students to help us create coloring pages, and slogans to
commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 for both
the
State Commission and Regional areas.
